Mary Schaefer from the Mid-East Area Agency on Aging talks about how they help seniors through the journey of aging and about the real issue of senior hunger.

Mary Schaefer has been the Executive Director of Mid-East Area Agency on Aging (MEAAA) since July 2002.  MEAAA provides services and programs for older adults age 60+  in the four Missouri counties of St. Louis, St. Charles, Jefferson, and Franklin.  These four counties have a population of over 300,000 older adults.  MEAAA services as an advocate for senior issues as well as providing services.

She has a BS degree in Social Work from the University of South Dakota and has been with MEAAA for twenty-nine years.  Mary is part of the speaker’s bureau for MEAAA and provides information, advocacy and support for programs on aging services in the community.  Mary has supervised the Senior Community Services Employment Program (SCSEP), the disease prevention/health promotion program including the Senior Services Station mobile health unit , the annual MEAAA Senior Fair, and the MEAAA Silver Haired Legislature program as well as other programs.
