Carol Edwards began dialysis in September 2000. Her renal failure resulted from hypertension. Unfortunately, she has also had several serious bouts with other illnesses which included heart valve replacement. During this time she recalls when she promised God that if he allowed her to get back on her feet again she would continue to give back.
After gaining her strength Carol reentered the workforce as a Social Worker in 2008. She has also been a single mother for years and has successfully raised two "men".
Sadly, within the 14 years of receiving her treatments in the dialysis clinics she observed that dialysis patients are not treated with the dignity and respect afforded to other chronic or end stage patients. She states that dialysis patients generate billions in revenue for the owners of the clinics, the doctors, the nurses, the administrators, the technicians, etc. however our rights as human beings are trampled and ignored as if we are an irrelevant part of society. It is important that we are noticed and heard. Her philosophy is, "Dialysis is what I do to survive..it does not define me".
