Melissa Clark-Reynolds, the MiniMonos CEO, will be discussing kids behavior online and how they are balancing tech skills and life skills. We are a virtual world for kids who love to play and love the planet, with 80,000 registered members worldwide.

Every day, we see kids be kind, generous, thoughtful, creative and caring. We also see negative behavior, of course, but weve been consistently gratified and amazed by the overwhelming positivity of our community.

For us, the balance between spending time on the computer and time outdoors is vital; its impossible for kids to have an appreciation for the environment if they dont spend any time in it!

MELISSA CLARK-REYNOLDS Melissa is a third-generation single mother whose environmental crusade is fuelled by a desire to protect her family. The link between climate change and her family’s quality of life hit home for Melissa while on a snorkelling trip in Hawaii with her youngest daughter Grace. While encouraging Grace to overcome her fear of putting her face underwater so she could see turtles, Melissa wondered how much longer those turtles could withstand ocean temperature changes.

She was terrified by the thought that one day Grace would have to tell her children, “There used to be turtles.” Melissa was moved to action. She ‘stalked’ Al Gore in order to be personally trained by him in climate change presentation delivery. She has put this training to good use; delivering more than 20 presentations since October 2007, far more than what was required of her. Al Gore chose the right woman for the job of provoking change – she’s engaging, she’s tough, and she’s wise.

Melissa has a rare ability to get people to overcome ‘climate change apathy’ and act to preserve our environment. She is adept at motivating others to step out of their comfort zones. Those who have heard Melissa speak say she “puts a very human perspective on issues”
