(ISC)² Safe and Secure Online -- (ISC)2, the not-for-profit global leader in educating and certifying information security professionals throughout their careers with more than 68,000 members worldwide, created the Safe & Secure Online (S&SO) program to educate schoolchildren ages 11-14 about how to protect themselves from online dangers in an increasingly connected world. The presentations are made by information security experts who are (ISC)²-certified and cover topics such as cyberbullying, social networking, viral email, spam, identity theft and more. The program addresses the gap in security advice that exists in children’s safety outreach efforts, using compelling materials for the classroom developed by former school teachers and presented by certified information security professionals.

With roughly 1,500 certified volunteer members involved in the U.S. program, the (ISC)2 Safe and Secure Online program has reached 30,000 children worldwide since the program’s inception.

To participate in the (ISC)2 Safe and Secure Online program, volunteers must be (ISC)2-certified members in good standing, which includes adherence to (ISC)2’s strict Code of Ethics, as well as provide a current criminal background check.

The launch of the program supports the recent emphasis by the Obama administration and Congress on the need for online security awareness by all citizens.
