TUNE INTO CIVIL ALERT RISING 360! as Sis. SentAsha KeyAma-Joy EL brings forth an update on Reparations for Eugenics Victims in 'North Carolina' an issue that was covered here on Civil Alert in 2012. To date, a plan for procedural concessions has been put in place and reparations will be issued on June 2015 for sterilization victims. Actual victims can submit their claims up until June 30, 2014.
After the update, you will hear a historic backgrounder from Harriet A. Washington, author of Medical Apartheid. It's a book about eugenics and medical experimentations that were carried out on our people throughout North America from the early colonial period to present. Harriet was a former editor at USA Today and received her fellowship from the Harvard School of Public Health. In 1997, she received a John S. Knight Fellowship at Stanford University, and in 2002 was named a Research Fellow in Medical Ethics at Harvard Medical School. In 2007, Washington's third book, Medical Apartheid won the 2007 National Book Critics Circle Award for Nonfiction. She is a Visiting Scholar at the DePaul University College of Law.
