Has Welfare Absolved Churches To Care For The Poor?

Welfare, Medicaid, HUD and other government programs have provided the poor with food, shelter, health care and education.  But isn't this the job of the CHURCH? Tthe bible says in James 1:27 that, "27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.".  What is your church doing for the poor?
