Khalid Moffitt is an author, poet, and promoter who has overcome imprisonment and the trauma of suffering a gun shot to win citywide critical acclaim. In 1992, following several hardships—including serving a prison sentence for illegal activities and having been shot while driving away from a dispute mix up—Moffitt began his professional writing career from a hospital sick bed. In December 1992 Moffitt, then a drug dealer, was incarcerated at Graterford prison; he later served time at Somerset prison. Eventually he ended up at Waymart prison, where he finished serving five years. Moffitt came out of prison a changed young man—he turned his life around. He was very fortunate to avoid a 150-year imprisonment judgment, which the district attorney was seeking. Standing before the judge, he was only 17 years old at the time his illegal activity brought him crashing down. Moffitt is currently a contributor to Philadelphia Front Page News online newspaper, and has made appearances on local cable TV productions viewed in North and West Philadelphia homes. He is a committee member and Vice President for Philadelphia IAP Committee, serving Philadelphia County and the city of Philadelphia.
