Social Strategy Sandbox - Social Media Legal Risk

Guests:  Labor Law Attorney, Matthew Durket and C7group Founder and Social Media Strategist, Jeff Marmins

Every organization needs to think about and be prepared to manage the risks associated with operating in the Digital Era. It doesn’t matter whether social media is part of the organization’s strategic agenda, or if the organization itself has any digital presence.

It also doesn’t matter how large the organization is, whether it’s for-profit, BtoB or BtoC, or which industry or sector it operates in.

Guidelines and policy alone are not sufficient in eliminating the risks.

Recent market research reveals social networking related exposure incidents for US companies have increased each year -- from 11% in 2008 to 17% in 2009 and to 21% in 2010.

24% of companies indicated that they have disciplined an employee for his or her activities on Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn.

This is a complex undertaking, and for many organizations it’s virtually impossible to imagine how they’re going to find the resources to devote to it.

Labor law attorney Matthew Durket and C7group Founder, Jeff Marmins, discuss how businesses can plan and respond to the legal issues surrounding social communication, such as loss of intellectual property, compliance violations, reputation management and HR lawsuits.
