Saturday afternoon could give an indication as to who will win the final spot in the Pittsburgh Pirates starting rotation
When the Pittsburgh Pirates signed Jordan Lyles to a one-year contract at Major League Baseball’s Winter Meetings in December, general manager Neal Huntington announced that he would have an opportunity to earn a spot in the team’s starting rotation. When Huntington said this, many people, myself included, saw it as GM speak.
During his career Lyles has struggled mightily as a starting pitcher, but, thanks in part to changes he made, pitched well out of the bullpen for the Milwaukee Brewers last season. Unfortunately, they never addressed this need and now Lyles appears to have the inside track to being the team’s fifth starting pitcher.
