Pat Jocelyn, a journalist with many talents. is now the editor of Village Neighbors, a "neighborhood" magazine with a readership of nearly 100,000 in a series of villages covering a three-county area in Florida.

The Villages started as a tiny mobile home park during the early 1980s and now contains in excess of 40,000 homes. with 55+ residents.

Author's Beat departs today from our coverage of authors to introduce you to the lair of behind-the-scenes editors.. They are the people that professionalize your book, short story or essay.

Authors may be terrific storytellers, but in many cases are deficient in spelling, grammatical/or stylistic  techniques. That's where an editor such as Pat Jocelyn becomes a lifesaver.

Village Neighbors is a monthly  magazine that caters to the active retiree. And folks, you can consider that a plug for our upcoming radio program, The Active Retiree.

We'll show you how to enjoy your many years of life to come after decades of WORK. We'll demonstrate ways to avoid vegetation (unless you want to grow them) and stagnation. And especially, we want you to enjoy those creative years extending way into the future.

Author’s Beat, sponsored by The Writers League of the Villages in central Florida, is hosted by award-winning author Mark Newhouse and was created by Don Canaan and Mark Newhouse.

Also listen to “The Chosen Radio” every 1st and 3rd Sunday morning of the month at 10:30. Award-winning journalist Don Canaan brings you dramatizations of many of the radio programs that you grew up with.
