Tyler Perry’s rendition of “For Colored Girls…”chronicles the relationships of seven women and the men in their lives. One story in particular stands out. The Lady in Brown played Kimberly Elise, whose man Beau Willie played by Michael Ealy has just come home from the war, he is suffering from post traumatic stress and taking it out on her and their family. She and her children are suffering physical abuse,but she excuses his behavior as “not his fault”, “the government did this to us”.

Our parents stayed together no matter what but our generation with soaring divorce rates and families so quick to throw in the towel when tough times surface. We can say that our generation has liberated ourselves from unhealthy relationships, but we confuse a lack of respect in relationships with a willingness to work through the issues.
