Important Facts About Adult Adoption Reunification:

  1. It is not adoptees with poor relationships with adoptive parents that are most satisfied with birth family contact or as a result of negative adoptive family relationships.
  2. Every adopted person has two histories, one from their adoptive family and one from their birth family.
  3. When begining the quest as an adult adoptee:A), you may have feelings of being disloyal; as if you may not being faithful to your adoptive family.  B) The serach process may take longer than you hoped for.  C)  The outcome may not be what you expected; there may not be a wish to have a relatoinship on both sides, different lifestyles may exisit, or maybe your fantasies are not at all the realtiy you encounter.
  4. Have a support structure and understand that adoption reunification is a process and real people with real lives and real feelings are involved.
