Thinking Aloud with Ayo in Conversation- Building wealth within the community

One of things I want to do better this year is support "own" brands! No, not MY own, but those within the Nigerian and African community that are doing things well. 
I've spoken to people who have sworn NEVER to do business with Nigerian/Africans ( they themselves are Naija/African peeps o!) while others swear that no matter what, they'd spend their hard earned £s/$s/¥ ONLY with Africans. 
2 extremes I guess. But both have valid points.

Is there any middle ground?
Are there pros and cons for both?
Should we be looking at the power of "the African" £/$/¥?
Should there be a responsibility to support "awa" own?
