Ashford Radio and Dr. Barb Morrison want to share the revelry of this amazing natural event by talking about “Kangaroo Care” and baby, mother and family adaption to a new life. Dr. Barb worked as a labor, birth and postpartum/nursery nurse for many years before becoming a nurse-midwife and getting her PhD in maternal child nursing. Now she is actively involved in synthesis of the massive body of research evidence regarding kangaroo care, a.k.a. skin-to-skin care, and breastfeeding with healthy full-term newborns and their parents. Her research also includes identifying modifiable environmental factors during the postpartum hospital stay that make it difficult for mothers to have alone time to kangaroo and to breastfeed their infants. Additionally, Dr. Barb thrives on educating others by giving talks, seminars and workshops on Kangaroo Care, breastfeeding and other pregnancy and birth related evidence-based practices. She will also consult with organizations in making practice and cultural changes to implement Kangaroo Care and exclusive breastfeeding.
