Bojan Kuure has over 40 years of experience as a dedicated registered nurse. She obtained a Special Registered Nursing Degree in Open-heart, Vascular and Thoracic Surgery from Helsingfors Nursing Institute in Helsinki, Finland in 1964 and a Registered Nursing Degree in Anesthesia Surgery and Management from The University of Helsinki in 1968. She taught post-basic nursing for two years at the University of Helsinki, Finland, from 1970 to 1972, before moving to the United States. In addition, she worked as a Specialty Nurse in open heart surgery at University Hospital in Helsinki, from 1968 to 1970. Mrs. Kuure has been with Island Hospital in Anacortes, Washington for over 35 years working in the operating room, beginning as a staff, scrub and circulating nurse. She assumed the position of Director in 1984 and is currently Director of OR, CS and Endoscopy where she is responsible for the 24-hour operations of the operating room, endoscopy and CS staff. Mrs. Kuure prepares the annual budget and monitors it throughout the year. She is an active member of the hospital’s surgical team. Mrs. Kuure has traveled extensively around the world, making 68 trips since 1988, performing volunteer surgery. She has been married to her husband, Arvo, since 1965 and has a daughter, Saara B. Kuure. She received the Paul Harris Award in 1999 and the Real Heroes Award from the American Red Cross in 2007.
