Why do we lie to ourselves?

Understanding who we are requires that we bring ourselves into Present Time. The spiritual journey is one of growth. When we lie who are we really lying to? We have all been in situations where at that moment we felt the need to lie. We tell ourselves we have a reason for telling the lie. It may be we convince ourselves we are sparing someone's feelings or we avoiding an uncomfortable situation. No matter what we tell ourselves only one thing remains true and that is the lie being told is really us lying to ourselves.
