On Thursday, September 17 at 8pm EST, We Talk Productions presents Port Of Harlem Talk Radio. Host Wayne Young talks with Ric Murphy, genealogical researcher, educator, historian, author, and Vice President of The Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society (AAHGS). We will explore the AAHGS conference that will be virtual this year.
In the second half-hour, we talk with Arlo Washington. He had been a barber for about 10 years when he founded a financial literacy non-profit in 2008. Today the non-profit, PEOPLE Trust, is the only Black-controlled financial institution based in Arkansas. Washington will reveal how the community development financial institution laws allowed him to create PEOPLE Trust that serves the needs of people that traditional banks shun, but who need capital without getting into debt traps.
