A passion project, the filmmakers eschewed the big budget studio treatment other Dick novels ( Total Recall; Minority Report, Blade Runner, The Adjustment Bureau) received.

According to Simon, none has yet captured the essence of Philip K. Dick's "slightly paranoid, darkly humorous, and above all, tender view of the human condition"
