Besides regular claims of bullying, are gay students being disregarded in the school curriculum? Apparently, yes, according to Sen. Mark Leno, D-San Francisco. He has sponsored a state measure, SB48, that would require social science instructional materials to include the role and contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans, as well as Pacific Islanders and those with disabilities. Irene Rojas-Carroll, a 16-year-old, "pansexual" student at El Cerrito High School in California, feels that having this law in place would reduce bullying related to sexual orientation by educating all children about people’s differences. Meanwhile, opponents of the measure believe this has nothing to do with bullying and everything to do with advancing special interest groups’ agenda. Dangerous Lee, author of “Keep Your Panties Up and Your Skirt Down” and an HIV testing counselor, will also be on the show to help us understand what it means to be a teen who is openly gay.
