Ukrainian soprano, Oksana Krovytska, was invited to America by the renowned manager Thea Dispeker, who brought her to New York City Opera in 1993. For the next 10 seasons, the soprano was acclaimed there as Liu in Turandot, Micaela in Carmen, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Musetta and Mimi in La Bohème, Violetta in La Traviata, Magda in La Rondine, Yaroslavna in a new production of Borodin's Prince Igor, and numerous appearances as Cio-Cio-San in Madama Butterfly - including a new production by Mark Lamos. She was honored with City Opera's coveted "Diva Award," and such media as The New York Times described her performance in a headline as "the Butterfly Puccini wanted," as well as calling her "the center of our attention [and] the object of our admiration."
