While working on his Autobiography, Darryl asked his mother for some background information. She then shared with him that he was adopted. He was 35 years old when he found out this life changing information. After some time, darryl began a search for his birthmother, creating a documentary with VH1 at the same time. " DMC: My adoption journey" which aired in February 2006.
