Crowned "Little Ella" by legendary trombonist Curtis Fuller, award-winning Vocalist/Composer/Arranger/Bandleader/Educator Mavis SWAN Poole has generated quite a buzz on the international music scene. SWAN is graced with an unrivaled brilliance of shattering barriers with her rich and smoky sound, effortlessly amalgamating many genres of music. SWAN is also known for being one of the few humans that can harmonize with herself.  Lady SWAN has the ability to sing two or more notes simultaneously, or "multiphonics". She's possessed this rare gift since childhood and usually reserves this treat for her live performances. The late Al Jarreau summed it up best after SWAN and her band "Soul Understated", co-led by melodic drummer Jeremy BEAN Clemons.SWAN has performed and shared the stage with the greats in most genres.

SWAN's sounds can croon as sweetly as a bird, or wail and scat out fiery tones and improvised lines with the most confident instrumentalist.  While she has performed with many other artists, it has been mostly under her own name, and often with her original music. A true artist in her own right. Education is important to SWAN, a music teacher and Vocal Coach with teaching experience that spans over 20 years. SWAN is a 2007 Magna Cum Laude graduate of North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC. There, she was Classically trained, earning a BA in Music Education, as well as a BM in Music, with a concentration in Jazz Vocal Studies. In 2011, she received her MA in Music, with a concentration in Jazz Vocal Performance at Queens College in NYC. She also attended college for Psychology.
