English speaking audiences have shown they are hungry for the Latin American women's voices that have emerged in translation over the last few decades. Little by Little the rich contributions by women to pre- and post-revolutionary Cuban narrative fiction are gaining recognition nationally and worldwide. Still few names of Cuban women writers that still reside and publish on the island are as familiar as those of their Cuban-American counterparts.
Professor Sara Cooper (California State University, Chico) is the senior editor at Cubanabooks, a new independent press devoted to bringing first-class literature from Cuban women to a United States audience as as to a global English and Spanish-speaking public. Publishing select literary gems in English or in bilingual English/Spanish volumes, Cubanabooks aims to correct the current U.S. unavailability of excellent literature from Cubans living in Cuba.
