How many will be a no show, how many will no show and then come back another day, how many are newly coming in. I studied Behavioral Sciences in school and chose to look at an area "Ethics" in Volunteer Managment. In that are some pretty high guidleines of appropriate interaction with volunteers, ways to recruit, retain, and reward their engagement. It was really pretty easy to understand. Lo and behold as I came into the Obama Campiagn during the summer of 2008, I came in as a volunteer. What better way to see the "Respect, Empower, and Include" in action? I am sharing with you today what my experience was and the experience of others that I witnessed as they managed the roll of volunteer. This is why I say, no more volunteering. She has shared deep insight with me that most folk may have not realized! She,said, "you never saw them going to church" "you never saw them getting ready for choir practice". See, folks in the old days of Coal Company Towns, well, the Coal Mine Owner built the church for parishioners to attend, however, people in my Great Grandfathers day were not allowed to question the MIne Owners treatment of Widows and Orphans where the Bible states plainly what was required for these folk and that they were to be cared for. See, good people can read the bible for themselves, and propaganda used shows like The Andy Griffith Show to portray a delusion to our eyes. Aunt Bea never went ot church either, so the level of manipulation of our minds was twice fold. You got your goodness of what a family should be on TV and you got the quantitative Shame and Guilt at the other venue - your local Church... These ideals of family and moral guidelines have went hand in hand for centuries to manage working people. We We have become good little consumers as the film Psy-War points out. We did not want to see ourselves drifting apart as other Organizations passed over our emails and calls. We felt isolated yet we hosted the largest Listeneing Tour in Georgia for Organizing for America AFTER the President's election in 2008. NOT in Atlanta, but in a rural county of less then 20,000 people; 85% of whom voted Republican!   We crossed counties lines and formed coalitions with each other that have lasted. We particpate in many activities with other groups such as Moveon, Working America, Hands across the Sand, and we even picketed a KKK Rally in Nahunta Georgia during Black History month 2010. We held signs that said Not in our back yard!, Georgians support President Obama, and Love Conquers Hate. Yes we have been intimidated, yes we have been afraid, but as we grew to see and understand that we were many across county lines - that is how we organized ourselves across the South East area of Georgia. Our first episode is about Getting Started and how that came about.
