Jennifer Degenhardt, B.A., M.Ed., continues to teach Spanish at the college level while she indulges in her passion for writing inclusive and representative stories. During her last teaching assignment she began writing short novels for her students. With the first book she wrote, Jennifer found that her students were more engaged, and through the stories she was able to offer themes for discussion she felt complemented language study and those that, simply put, need to be part of regular discourse: racism, classism, social protest, paying it forward, alcoholism, unhealthy relationships, LGBTQ+, culture, identity, undocumented immigration, persons with disabilities, etc. As it turned out, it was in the telling of the stories that allowed Jennifer to rewrite her own in middle age.
