Join us on Women Warriors on Wed Mar 19th at Noon ET as we discuss the topic of “Childfree Reflections” with our guest, Marcia Drut-Davis. Marcia is an author and what some consider the mother of the childfree movement. In 1974 after reading “The Baby Trap” by Ellen Peck, she became involved with Ellen and her organization called NON. (The National Organization for Non-Parents). She laid the groundwork not to feel embarrassed and to speak the truth if they chose not to have or raise children.
Marcia is a graduation of City College of New York & Adelphi University with an MS Degree in Education and Psychology/Masters in TESOL. She is a woman who believes that life is about taking risks. Choosing paths for ourselves is often frightening but without risking, you stay where you are. She is a 70 year-young-woman who has lived and continues to live a wonderfully rich life without raising any children of my own.
In 1974, she was interviewed about her choice not to parent on the prestigious TV show,”60 minutes”. As a result, she lost her job as a teacher, a career she had been dedicated and passionate about for more than ten years. Her website, http://www.childfreereflections.com/ , is designed to support anyone who has ever wondered if parenting is a choice, instinct or societal expectation. With her blog, she invites you to share your thoughts, stories and confessions of any kind. She’s written the book, Confessions of a Childfree Woman.
