Abuse is not an experience one wants to talk about unless she/he is completely ready and willing to do so. Included in this discussion are solutions to a hidden and underlying issue within the Sports world. This includes - 1. Setting a system in place that is comfortable for a victim to report abuse. 2. Sport clubs designating a go-to person. 3. Creating an educational workshop **If you know of anyone experiencing abuse, it is important to let them know you are there for them** #SHEVELOCITYAthleteMOVEMENT™ #GETUPMOVEUNLEASHYOURINNERATHLETEBEitLIVEit™ www.velocityathletictraining.com     00:14:00Women In Sport PodcastnoSport,Abuse,MentalAbuse,PhysicalAbuse,EmotionalAbuseLearn to recognize when you are being abused. Plyometric Training is one of my most favorite forms of conditioning! It assists the athlete in building strength and speed through the use of explosive movements in short intervals of time. In this episode, Helena discusses the benefits of Plyo training and how to integrate this valuable form of conditioning into your daily sessions. Say Hello to a FASTER. STRONGER. Sexual Abuse. Harassment. All various terms for an underlying issue that has plagued society for years! My very own saying - Abuse can happen anywhere at any time and to anyone holds truth upon learning Abuse in Sport exists. Parallel worlds collide. In an environment where children, youth, female and males should be lifted, challenged as well as motivated to accomplish their very own greatness, they are also experiencing darkness. Abuse is Abuse, the feelings are the same no matter the environment. As a survivor of domestic violence, I will point out some of the most important factors that athletes would be experiencing. Although each victim would be experiencing different emotions, obstacles and time lines, from my very own experience these factors are the base - 1. How the athlete feels 2. The obstacles the athlete faces 3. The timeline If you know of anyone in your Athletic environment experiencing abuse or anyone for that matter, it is imperative to assure them you are there for them. Do not turn your back on them. Do not comment - "It's all in your head' or make them feel that they are questioning themselves. Motivate them to seek help. Report it to your local police. #SHEVELOCITYAthleteMOVEMENT™  #GETUPMOVEUNLEASHYOURINNERATHLETEBEitLIVEit™       00:16:00Women In Sport Podcastnodomesticviolence, abuse, harrassement, femaleathletes, youthathletesLearn to recognize when you are being abused. Tune in to this episode with my Special Guest Jazmine Highsmith, a former Child/Youth Athlete from Houston Texas our discussion will shed light on this most important subject that Child/Youth Athletes face in Canada and the USA. Jazmine Highsmith's Bio - Jazmine Highsmith was born and raised in Miami, FL. Surprisingly,  her early development didn't include sports.  At the age of 3 her mother enrolled her in ballet, tap and jazz and from the age of 3 to the age of 13 Jazmine was a dancer in addition to this she cheered for the neighborhood optimist team and her middle school. In 2002 at the age of 14 Jazmine entered the 9th grade at 5ft 10inches tall, her height alone intrigued coaches. One coach in particular Ms. Carmen Jackson took interest in Jazmine and demanded that she come to track practice and learn how to throw the shot-put. Jazmine at the time had no intentions of joining any sports teams her 1st year of high school but Ms. Carmen insisted and even called her home to speak with her mother and well the rest is history. Under the direction of Carmen Jackson and coached by Richard Louis at Miami Northwestern Senior High School.  Jazmine became one of Florida's top throwers. She was a 3 time state qualifier in the discus throw (2003, 2004, & 2005)  shot-put qualifier (2005), state finalist in the shot-put (2005), Bob Hayes Shot-Put Champion (2005) and an All-Miami Dade county athlete Second-Team, & Honorable Mention). In 2005 Jazmine was apart of the team that captured the 2005 4A State Track & Field Championship. Jazmine graduated from Miami Northwestern Senior High School in 2005 as an honor graduate. 00:31:00Women In Sport PodcastnoJazmineHighsmith,Youthathlete,MasterAthlete,Tracknfield,NutritionThe Nutritional requirements of Adult Athletes dominates the Athletic Industry most often that we fail to pay attention to the Nutritional requirements of Youth281fb5b4-2b11-4a4e-91f9-d86b5453b4e314full
