Cynthia was a glamorous ballerina until she was 21 when a simple injury of tearing a hamstring turned into the most excruciating, burning pain she had ever felt. Her leg turned purple and became swollen and cold and the pain steadily grew worse and worse.

Her true nightmare began when her doctor completely ignored her symptoms for 13 years and continued telling her it was 'all in her head' while the disease with no name mercilessly spread throughout her entire body.

Needless to say,  her glamorous career of being a ballerina slipped away and some of her family and friends left. Cynthia spent weeks at a time bedridden screaming in pain, crawling on the floor to get anywhere. She was left totally disabled without a diagnosis or treatment because of this mysterious, never-ending pain.

Finally she found a Pain Management Specialist who diagnosed her with CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome). Though she quickly improved, her condition had progressed too far unchecked for a cure, leaving her in constant physical pain and relying on a wheelchair. But at last she was believed and her pain had a name giving her a new light and a new focus.
