My Guest this Thursday, July 7th at 3 p.m. PDT/6EDT on MetalSmith BenchTalk is an archived interview with artist Biba Schutz!

Bio: Biba Schutz is a self-taught jewelry artist who began her design career as a graphic artist. She was trained in typography and printmaking at the Pratt Graphics Center, New York City and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in design from American University in Washington, D.C. and continued her creative interest at the Instituto De Allende, San Miguel De Allende, Mexico

Schutz' work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions throughout the U.S. and has been highlighted in many publications including Metalsmith Magazine; American Craft Magazine; Ornament Magazine; and the "500" book series by Lark Books. She lives and works in New York City.

Schutz utilizes fabricated wire of copper, silver and bronze to create these sculptural pieces.  Her jewelry shows evidence of both printmaking and fiber, as it is rich in positive and negative space, as well as being wonderfully tactile. Her work is also mostly constructed from oxidized sterling silver, bronze, and copper, givving warmth and depth to her already organic look.
