The definition of idolatry, according to Webster, is “the worship of idols or excessive devotion to, or reverence for some person or thing.” An idol is anything that replaces the one, true God. The most prevalent form of idolatry in Bible times was the worship of images that were thought to embody the various pagan deities. Today we don't call these pagen deities gods we call them by their first name: sports, sex, liquor, gambling, gaming, hunting for sport and the list goes on. These are things we do instead of staying in communion with God. This we need to be delivered from but first we need to recognize what we are talking about and acknowledge that it is against God's will for us.
