A lot of people feel the effects of those problems. However, a few people make it their business, literally to go to work in the system to make changes to the system that make a real difference for a lot of people.  Durrel Douglas is one of those change-makers. Durrel Douglas recently moved to Washington State from Texas where he was a community organizer. Now Durrel is the  Political Organizer for SEIU 925. However, before Durrel was a super-organizer he was a prison guard and that gives him a very unique perspective on social justice. In a very short time, Durrel's experience and wisdom have become invaluable in the I-873 campaign.  We are going to talk to Durrel about the state of the modern civil rights movement and why I-873 is important in Washington State and for the rest of the country.   00:29:00People SpeaknoI-873,Washington for Good Policing,Durrel DouglasDurrel Douglas on the state of the modern civil rights movementChester Earl, Justice for Jackiehttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/w4gp/2016/08/19/chester-earl-justice-for-jackiePolitics Progressivehttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/w4gp/2016/08/19/chester-earl-justice-for-jackie/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/w4gp/2016/08/19/chester-earl-justice-for-jackieFri, 19 Aug 2016 19:00:00 GMTChester Earl, Justice for JackieIn January of this year, Jackie Salyers, a Puyallup Tribe member, and her unborn baby, were shot and killed in a dark alley by the Tacoma Police department. The circumstances surrounding her death are highly questionable. The fallout of the investigation has been alarming and confusing.  Like so many families who experience the death of a family member through police brutality, Jackie's family and the Puyallup tribe found themselves in an activist role almost overnight. Justice for Jackie was created and they have been fighting for justice ever since.   Justice for Jackie is a cornerstone in the I-873 effort. I-873 is a revolutionary initiative that is the first of it's kind in the nation that will put policing laws in the hands of the people vs. the legislature. 00:30:00People Speaknojusticeforjackie,I-873,washingtonforgoodpolicingIn January of 2016, Chester Earl became an activist my necessity after he lost a family member to police violence.
