TOPIC: SB 216 -Reporting Animal Cruelty https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2021/216/?Tab=BillHistory

Reporting Animal Cruelty; Citing this act as "Allie’s Law"; specifying that the failure of a veterinarian to report suspected animal cruelty is grounds for disciplinary action; requiring veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and other animal treatment provider employees to report cases of suspected animal cruelty to certain officials; authorizing veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and other animal treatment provider employees to report suspected cases of animal cruelty at certain commercial food-producing animal operations under certain circumstances, etc.

Allie, a 4 year-old Boston Terrier, suffered at the hands of her human caretakers. They left scars on her face, ears and legs. The horrific circumstances that she suffered through had been recognized as a situation of abuse by a veterinarian in the past, yet no authority was notified. Until she was rescued from her abusers no one spoke for her.Violence against animals does not stop with the animal’s mistreatment. Research has found that there is a correlation between animal abuse and abuse among humans, including child and domestic violence.
