During the 4-weeks session, students participated in playwright training & development of new plays, lessons on character development, scene study, plot, setting, & stage directions. This popular STARZ Leadership/Playwrighting Camp is sponsored by The Virgin Islands (VI) Dept. of Labor. This camp focuses on developing life & career skills through playwrighting & theater performance via a model of instruction known as active learning. The Pistarckle Theater Playwrighting Camp: During the 4-week camp session, students practice character descriptions, writing exercises to strengthen voice, perspective & language choices. They then write their own 10-minute/1-Act Plays from themes that are identified through class discussions that prioritize elements important to the life of the youth in the program. Scenes are re-written & revised with feedback from peers & instructor. Once the drafts are ready for an initial reading, the students produce a typed copy for reading & performance notes. The scenes will then be presented with basic staging, props, & minimal set, to allow the young playwrights work to come to life on stage. Other youth in the program act in each other's’ plays. This program is a partnership with the VI Dept. of Labor 'Career Development Program’ for pre-work youth, & has the support of the VI Finance & Housing Dept. Scenes will be displayed for the public & performed Thursday, August 17 at 7 pm at Pistarckle Theater. Tickets are $10 per person for both adults & children. Volunteering is generally considered an altruistic activity where an individual or group provides services for no financial gain "to benefit another person, group, or organization". Thus, volunteers help to stretch the funding. Volunteering is also renowned for skill development & is often intended to promote goodness or to improve human quality of life. Volunteering has positive benefits for the volunteer as well as for the person, project, or community served. It is also intended to make contacts for possible employment. Many volunteers are specifically trained in the areas they work, such as medicine, education, or emergency rescue. Others serve on an as-needed basis, such as in response to a natural disaster. Why be a volunteer at Pistarckle Theater? Because there are many proven personal benefits of community volunteerism. Working together with a group of people who have different ethnicity, backgrounds, & views reduces stereotypes. Community volunteerism has also been proven to improve student's academic success. According to Where's the Learning in Service Learning? by Janet Eyler & Dwight E. Giles, "Immersing oneself into service learning and serving others has many positive effects both academic & personal. Not only does surrounding oneself with new people & learning how to work together as a group help one improve teamwork & relational skills, it reduces stereotypes, increases appreciation of other cultures, & works to allow young people to find others that they relate to." The Nirvana Temple is the real-life dream of Dr. May Trieu, located on St Thomas, US Virgin Islands overlooking Mandahl Salt Pond. Temple construction began three years ago and is still a work in progress. Engaged Buddhism is a term originally coined by Vietnamese Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh. Mindfulness meditation practiced by anyone from any religious or cultural backgrounds and at any place serves to bring inner peace.  We must be aware of and enjoy the moment. Buddhism is a philosophy of life expounded by Gautama Buddha ("Buddha" means "enlightened one"), who lived and taught in northern India in the 6th Century B.C. The Buddha was not a god and the philosophy of Buddhism does not entail any theistic world-view. The teachings of the Buddha are aimed solely to liberate sentient beings from suffering.  Gautama Buddha taught the four noble truths: that there is suffering, that suffering has a cause, that suffering has an end, and that there is a path that leads to the end of suffering. He saw that all phenomena in life are impermanent and that our attachment to the idea of substantial and enduring self is an illusion which is the principle cause of suffering. Freedom from oneself liberates the heart from greed, hatred, and delusion and it opens the mind to wisdom and the heart to kindness and compassion. 00:32:00Virgin Islands Small Biz ShowcasenoThe Nirvana Temple,Peace,Healing,St. Thomas, communityThe Nirvana Temple is the real-life dream of Dr. May Trieu, located on St Thomas, US Virgin Islands overlooking Mandahl Salt Pond.Tribute to Muhammad Ali: The First Annual Rumble in the Bordeaux Mountains, #4http://www.blogtalkradio.com/visbshowcase/2017/03/23/tribute-to-muhammad-ali-the-first-annual-rumble-in-the-bordeaux-mountains-4Entrepreneurhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/visbshowcase/2017/03/23/tribute-to-muhammad-ali-the-first-annual-rumble-in-the-bordeaux-mountains-4/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/visbshowcase/2017/03/23/tribute-to-muhammad-ali-the-first-annual-rumble-in-the-bordeaux-mountains-4Thu, 23 Mar 2017 22:30:00 GMTTribute to Muhammad Ali: The First Annual Rumble in the Bordeaux Mountains, #4You are invited Sunday, March 26, 2017 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm at St. Thomas Bordeaux Market to an Official VI Celebration of the Life & Legacy of Muhammad Ali hosted by We Grow Food, Inc. They got their start over on the island of St. John and expanded to St. Thomas shortly after.  They do not believe in cutting corners or any of the nonsense that is sometimes witnessed in the US Virgin Islands. They believe that the only way to have a successful business on an island is to value each and every customer. While there may not be millions of people living in the USVI, they've achieved success by focusing on 3 different aspects of business: The first is you, their Client.  They understand that things come up down here and work to add value and a level of flexibility to our customer’s daily lives.  We know how important your time is, and how frustrating it can be to sometimes even get simple things done in the USVI.  That is why if you call us, it is Chris or Toby who answers the phone.  Not an office manager or an assistant.   Superior Products – Whether you are renting a container or a mobile office, they'll work to provide the absolute best for you. The containers will be rented to you fully cleaned.  The interior floor will have a coat of polyurethane applied BEFORE it is delivered to you. The container will arrive free of rust spots or peeling paint and many receive a full new paint job before being delivered to you.  An effortless process from your first call for a quote all the way to the monthly invoices they send out, they try to make the entire process as stress free and effortless as possible for you. They follow a consistent process for bringing you on as a new client, all explained step by step at http://j.mp/2ghstR6.00:31:00Virgin Islands Small Biz Showcasenostorage, mobile office,family-owned company,family-run small business,Toby SloddenWhile there may not be millions of people living in the USVI, they've achieved success by focusing on 3 different aspects of business.Oneness In Paradise: Looking Forward to Moving Forwardhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/visbshowcase/2016/11/10/oneness-in-paradise-looking-forward-to-moving-forwardEntrepreneurhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/visbshowcase/2016/11/10/oneness-in-paradise-looking-forward-to-moving-forward/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/visbshowcase/2016/11/10/oneness-in-paradise-looking-forward-to-moving-forwardThu, 10 Nov 2016 17:00:00 GMTOneness In Paradise: Looking Forward to Moving ForwardOneness In Paradise is an event that is intended to bring the community together for some awesome praise and worship blessings in and for our community. Ltd. cruise ship dock on St. Thomas. “We’re definitely very enthusiastic and we will be putting an emphasis on polishing the image of the taxi industry in the islands,” BEST General Manager Kerry Harrigan told the Virgin Islands Free Press. Harrigan said he represents “250 to 300” taxi drivers on St. Thomas and will be working closely with the Virgin Islands Department of Tourism to ensure that all drivers get needed training in hospitality and customer service. “When tourists talk about their experience in the Virgin Islands we want them to be able to tell their friends about the ‘Wow!’ experience they had in the territory,” he said. “What happens on St. Thomas affects all the other islands. We see it as our job to promote all of the islands, St. Croix, St. John, and St. Thomas.” The entrepreneur born in Anguilla has 19 years experience in the industry and said he thinks his organization won the WICO bid by emphasizing how taxi drivers are an integral component of the tourism industry product and by being candid about the need to make improvements. “We take our civic and community outreach commitments quite seriously because we are trying to make our islands a better place for everyone," he said. ~ Courtesy of the the Virgin Islands Free Press.com at: http://j.mp/2d7CEIX   00:31:00Virgin Islands Small Biz Showcasenocustomer service,Blue Executive Services & Transportation,BEST,West Indian Co.
