According to Professor Philip Haseley, PhD the study of UFOs and other related phenomena should be a legitimate university subject. However, the literature and 60 years of UFO research clearly demonstrate unacknowledged forces - both political and sociological - may be responsible for keeping the academic study of UFOs out of universities. Dr. Haseley is a New York anthropology professor and a lecturer at Niagara County Community College and the head of the Western New York Mutual UFO Network. According to Dr. Haseley, under normal circumstances, academic institutions and private scientific think-tanks are open to the study of the paranormal and other popular anomalous phenomena. Yet for reasons that are never publicly articulated, the political as well as phenomenological aspects of UFOs appear to be unworthy of legitimate academic standing at mainstream universities and colleges.
