Michelle L. Hamilton earned her master's degree in history from San Diego State University in 2013. Hamilton is the author of “I Would Still Be Drowned in Tears”: Spiritualism in Abraham Lincoln’s White House and “My Heart is in the Cause”: The Civil War Dairies of Private James A. Meyers, 45th PA Volunteers, Manners During the Civil War, and Mary Ball Washington: The Mother of George Washington.. Her work has appeared in the magazine The Citizens' Companion.
