For many years after the death of Jesus of Nazareth his apostles and followers held fast to his teachings and taught others to do the same. His powerful, life-giving, transformative teachings were transmitted by word of mouth in what is known today as oral tradition. Before the gospels that now comprise part of the New Testament were written a Pharisee named Saul (who later changed his name to PauL) claimed to have had a revelation directly from Jesus that was so utterly different as to be diametrically opposed to the teachings of Jesus. Paul created a set of teachings that were completely rejected by the followers of Jesus who comprised the Jerusalem Assembly. But it was the teachings of Paul known as the Gospel of Christ that won the day. The teachings of Jesus were replaced. Can you say deception?
