Dr. Avalos is a professor of Religious Studies with PhD's in the Hebrew Bible and Near Eastern Studies from Harvard. In addition to being a vocal critic of "Intelligent Design"/Creationism, his interests run from the foundation of religious violence to the conflict between religion and science. His books include Fighting Words: The Origins of Religious Violence, and The End of Biblical Studies. He has also contributed to both the John Loftus edited anthologies, The Christian Delusion and The End of Chrsitianity.
