As an Emmy-nominated actor and Grammy award winner, Warner has positioned himself as one of the most accomplished talents in the industry today. As a staple in television and film for nearly 30 years, Warner first rose to national prominence by starring on the celebrated and long-running classic television series “The Cosby Show.” His work on the show garnered him a Primetime Emmy Nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, and set the stage for him to have a long career in the public eye. Warner was most recently seen on TNT’s hit series “Major Crimes” and FX’s “Sons of Anarchy.” He also recurred on FX’s critically acclaimed series “American Horror Story.” In May 2015 it was announced that Warner had joined the cast of FX’s “American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Usually it's the disco divas that are born in the church musically, every now and then a male artist will emerge from the church to have a profound impact on secular music, Leonard Charles Williams is one of those.     Born in Little Rock Arkansas on February 6th, 1945 he escaped the racially charged south at the age of one to be brought up in the diverse Oakland, California area. Lenny's uncle was Bishop Charles Harrison Mason, founder of the Church of God in Christ (America's leading black Pentecostal church), so naturally church was an important part of his life from the beginning. In fact Williams studied to become a minister while also singing in the church choir.     Upon graduation from high school Lenny took on a series of odd jobs while at the same time discovering the wonderful world of secular music, particularly the emerging Motown sound. Between 1963 and 1968 he worked his odd jobs and honed his singing talent by entering a series of local talent contests, often winning them. In 1968 local Berkley record company Fantasy Records offered him a contract. Fantasy was on the cusp of success with Creedence Clearwater Revival and Lenny's singles, "Lisa's Gone" and "Feelin' Blue," did not have the benefit of proper promotion and only achieved marginal regional success.               00:47:00Chat and Chillnolenny williams, cause i love you,rb,soul, soulfmAs with many of secular music's greatest singers they often have a deeply religious background. George Clinton LiveMusician George Clinton was born in Kannapolis, North Carolina on July 22, 1941. His music career began in a barbershop where he created a doo-wop group called The Parliaments. Clinton regularly reorganized musicians in The Parliaments, later known as Funkadelic and then P.Funk All-Stars, to create new sounds. He had a number one hit on his 1983 solo album, Computer Games. Early Career Musician. Born July 22, 1941, in Kannapolis, North Carolina. Raised in Plainfield, New Jersey, Clinton began his music career in the 1950's, while working at a barbershop in Newark, New Jersey. He founded a doo-wop singing quintet he called The Parliaments out of the shop's backroom. When Clinton headed to Detroit in the early 1960s to work as a staff songwriter for Motown, the group stayed in New Jersey but continued to work together long distance. Landing a deal with Revilot Records, The Parliaments turned out their first hit with in 1967 with the single "(I Just Wanna) Testify," which landed at No. 3 on the Billboard R&B charts. The only member of The Parliaments to actually appear on the recording, however, was Clinton; no one else was able to travel to Detroit for the session, so studio musicians filled in. Parliament and Funkadelic When Revilot went bankrupt later that year, the group's name became tied up in litigation. In 1968, they renamed themselves Funkadelic, after Clinton's back-up band. In 1972, when Clinton was finally able to get back the Parliament name, the group began using both the Parliament and Funkadelic monikers, but under different record labels. Often referring to himself as "the Referee", Clinton mixed and matched the musicians and singers in his groups, which helped maintain a fresh, innovative sound.   01:13:00Chat and Chillnogeorgeclinton, pfunk,Parliament,Funkadelic,FLASHLIGHTMusician George Clinton was born in Kannapolis, North Carolina on July 22, 1941. These were the years when THE ISLEY BROTHERS were a self-produced, self-contained group. If you are familiar with THE ISLEY BROTHERS, then you have heard the music of CHRIS JASPER, who was primarily responsible for writing and producing all of THE ISLEY BROTHERS music during this time, including such beautiful love songs as “For The Love of You” and “Between the Sheets” and uptempo funk such as “Fight the Power.” His arrangements and instrumentation as a classically-trained musician, and his expertise on the keyboards and synthesizers, are the foundation of the legendary “Isley Brothers Sound.” When the six members of THE ISLEY BROTHERS disbanded (1984), Marvin and Ernie Isley joined CHRIS JASPER and formed ISLEY-JASPER-ISLEY. Without this crucial musical component, THE ISLEY BROTHERS were no longer a self-produced, self-contained group.CHRIS JASPER brought his “unique sound” and musical talents to ISLEY-JASPER-ISLEY, and topped the charts singing lead vocals on “Caravan of Love” (1985), a song that was covered by English recording group, the Housemartins, an international #1 pop hit. “Caravan” was also used in commercials as part of a Dodge Caravan advertising campaign. LourimThom began playing guitar at a very young age, music helped to deal with a broken home and never seeming to fit anywhere. Trained with a classical and jazz teacher, Thom switched to rock music and Jazz fusion and began performing and recording with various bands. During this time in between studio and touring despite growing popularity as a musician, Thom struggled as a very broken person covering the pain with alcohol, drugs and the accolades of playing music. During the 90's Thom toured all over the country, worked with artist's such as Jody Watley, Piece's of a Dream and doing session, his alcohol abuse at times put him on the streets and several suicide attempts. Seeming to live a double life as he continued to grow as a musician. In 2004, Thom hit bottom, and Jesus got through to him. Thom surrendered his life to Christ, walked away from drugs/alcohol and walked away from music, associating it with all the pain and suffering and began doing homeless, Hospice and poverty outreach as a way to heal and grow in Christ. In 2009, God instructed Thom to resume his music career, Thom was very reluctant but followed God's leading. Working with up and coming vocalist Angelia Robinson and with the band Pillar of Fire Thom was able to start channeling all he's been through, through the music and saw how God could reach people and change lives. Thom spent the next 3 years elevating with Jazz singer Lisa Gilliam, Vocalist's Tanya Blount, Mike Trotter, Iris Lewis and working with all kinds of artists, even HipHop. Thom formed the band The C and T Connection with Cassia The Poet who's testimony was similar and began an to minister with her and their band sharing their stories of hope and transformation. Thom also became Vocalist Tanya Dallas Lewis's guitarist again sharing the hope of Christ. 01:00:00Chat and Chillnospirituality,Christian, music,Thom Lourim, wonderfulThom began playing guitar at a very young age, music helped to deal with a broken home and never seeming to fit anywhere. Born and raised in East St. Louis, Phil Perry has spent most of his career as one of the most sought-after backing vocalists in the music business.  His bright, multi-octave range has played a supporting role on dozens of albums by such acts as Anita Baker, Boz Scaggs, Rod Stewart, Peabo Bryson and George Duke.  But he has also distinguished himself through a series of strong solo albums that have highlighted both his ability to interpret classic soul songs as well as his own songwriting skills.   Perry first came to the attention of Soul Music fans as the lead singer of the Montclairs, whose "Begging's Hard to Do" was a moderate hit in 1972.  In 1985 he married soul/jazz singer Lillian "Tang" Tynes, and began a marriage partnership that has lasted ever since.  After a brief stint as part of the singing duo Perry and Sanlin, Perry went solo in 1991 with The Heart of a Man, an album most notable for Perry's sheer guts (or some thought audacity) in releasing as a single a remake of Aretha Franklin's "Call Me."  It was a real coming out for Perry, as he ripped through the song in bold fashion, even surpassing Aretha's revered original version.   His follow-up album, 1994's Pure Pleasure, was perhaps his best, and included fantastic remakes of "After the Love is Gone" and "If Only You Knew" and a seven minute cover of the Spinners' "Love Don't Love Nobody" that was sheer magic.      01:54:00Chat and Chillnophilperry, music, soul,Great Music,Old schoolThis is TheSoulFM's third time chillin with Phil Perry and each and everytime it's new and exciting! A combination of jazz improvisation and R&B, this genre forms a bridge from the jazz fusion of the 70s to the jazz pop of the mid 80s. A native of Jamaica, Queens, New York, Najee shared all of his musical dreams-and later, many professional gigs-with his brother Fareed, a guitarist who was a year younger. Their father passed away when they were very young, but their mother encouraged a deep exposure to jazz via recordings by artists as diverse as the Miles Davis Quintet, Junior Walker and Mongo Santamaria. Najee showed an early interest in the sax but a grammar school teacher steered him towards clarinet when there were no sax chairs available in the school band.   Najee, along with his brother Fareed, attended the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston with a concentrated study in performance and composition.   Najee left the Conservatory after three years and moved back to New York, where he immersed himself in the club scene. One night when he was out playing straight ahead jazz, Lesette Wilson, keyboardist and musical director of Chaka Khan-who was hot at the time with her trademark hit “Ain’t Nobody”-came in and loved what she heard. She called him to audition for the singer’s upcoming tour, and in no time Najee found himself on the road for a year with the legendary diva, playing alto sax and flute. Najee’s good fortune transferred to Fareed’s career as well when Chaka’s longtime guitarist Tony Maiden failed to show up for a rehearsal. Fareed plugged in and was hired to play alongside Maiden for the tour.       01:00:00Chat and ChillnoNajee, jazz, soulful,Horns, entertainmentWith three platinum and five gold albums, Najee is one of the pioneers of what is commonly known as Contemporary Jazz.
