Dave is just beginning his second term. In addition to this, Dave is also a GOP Precinct Chair. Mayor Dave says "the town of Providence Village has a unique story, in that it was born out of necessity only 6 years ago, in an attempt to correct some terrible wrongs, and to be able to control its destiny in the years to come. We were one of many master planned communities that have been exploding in our county. Our short term successes have been quite remarkable. Jim is a retired United States Air Force Senior Master Sergeant. He has a degree in political science with a social studies composite teaching certificate from the University of Texas in San Antonio. Jim taught high school economics at Harlandale High School in San Antonio and retired in 2011. In 2008 he joined the Texas Border Volunteers and previously served as the Executive Vice President.  His current position is the TBV Media Liaison.  Jim frequently speaks at various civic group and TEA Party functions about the current state of affairs in the south Texas border region.   For two years he was one of the featured presenters at the National Security Intelligence Seminar for Law Enforcement.  The Texas Border Volunteers, Inc. (TBV) was created in 2006 to work with the U.S. Border Patrol, and other law enforcement agencies, reporting illegal aliens trespassing on private ranches. They have a developed a solid and respected working relationship with the Falfurrias Border Patrol, Texas DPS aircrews, and the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office.  Their area of operations is located in Brooks County, Texas approximately 70 miles north of the border.  We admire and are grateful for Jim's service and dedication to help keep America safe and prosperous. Melanie is the wife of Mike Graft and mother to three small children. She was born in California, raised in Wisconsin and feeling Blessed to move to Texas in 1999, she resides in Granbury, Texas. In May of 2015, Melanie found herself in the middle of a heated debate over LGBT children's books after a regular visit to the library with her four-year-old daughter. While visiting the library her daughter picked up a book, titled, "This Day in June". This book is a picture book for ages 4-8 of an LGBT pride parade. Her daughter unfortunately opened to a page with two men kissing and Melanie was left to explain this to her four-year-old daughter.  After a simple request to have the book, and several others like it in the children's section of the library, moved to a more appropriate area she was thrown into a media frenzy and personally attacked by the head librarian, ACLU, ALA, county commissioners and county judge. The county commissioners court ruled against parental rights and age appropriateness.  Tune in to listen to Melanie elaborate on her experiences with this incredible story. Major Dave is a native of Raleigh, NC and a retired US Army officer. His military career included initial service as a Military Police Investigator, both in the US and overseas, before returning to NC in 1980 to join the NC National Guard and pursue a degree. He was selected for Officer Candidate School and received his commision as a Second Lieutenant in 1982 as an Honor Graduate of his class. He received his BA degree in Sociology the following month from NC State University. He is a former Assistant Professor at NC A&T State University in Greensboro and has been a recurring Guest Instructor at both the National Guard's Professional Education Center in North Little Rock, AR and at the US Army Command & General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth, KS where he taught courses in Organizational Effectiveness, Military History, Personnel Management and Leadership. He is the Past Commander of American Legion Post #187 in Wake Forest, NC, is a Fellow at The Institute of Political Leadership in Greensboro and is a recipient of the North Carolina Civilian Meritorious Service Medal for his continued support of the National Guard since his retirement.
