This weeks theme: I dedicate this show to my Sister, Bessie Maria Lyles. She was born yesterday, Februrary 22, 1955 and she died today, Februrary 23, 1977. She never walked a day in her life, she had Muscular Dystrophy and Cerebral Palsy, yet she taught me how to dance. Remember that movie, 'White Boys can't Jump'? Well this gal couldn't dance and my sister directed me and taught me not to dance fast to slow music or happy to sad music, how to count music phrases and everything. It is because of her I became a dancer, a dance teacher and educator. I still reach out to her spirit for guidance. Having had to take care of her from when I was 8 years old until I left home, helped me maintain sanity in a dysfunctional home environment. I knew I could walk away from the madness, she couldn't, she was set for life as she was. Even still she gave so much of herself to me. It was I who benefitted from taking care of her. She influenced my ability to rise above the fray. I love you Ri Ri.
