Like many other issues facing our nation, the obvious solution is rarely the correct one.  There are underlying factors that are contributing to these shootings.  We must be willing to look beneath the surface and consider more subtle reasons . . . or a combination of more subtle reasons.  Unfortunately, the only two issues that have played well politically is "gun control" and "arming teachers" . . . neither of these ideas get at the heart of the matter. What could possibly explain this madness?  Hmm . . . could it be the 2014 elections?  Hmm . . .  that's possible.  I guess that means we do not have enough leaders with the courage to make hard decisions.  Of course, difficult decisions are difficult.  If they weren't, they would be called "ice cream" instead.   What can we do to change this?  How can we protect our grandchildren's futures?  This is not an easy question, but a question's difficulty level is not directly related to its applicability.  Reasonable people could disagree on what our responsibility is; however, "nothing" is clearly an unacceptable answer.
