Young was tragically inducted into the widow club on the morning of March 18, 2011, at the tender age of 31.   It was on this day that her husband and companion of 17 years chose to end his life and completed suicide.  As she navigated through the complicated grief process with two young children, LaTisha found that support and resources in this area of loss were minimal.  This sparked LaTisha to become an advocate for families and individuals processing through the trauma of suicide, which culminated into the creation of Dialogos: Survivors Support and Postvention.  Dialogos is a non-profit organization that offers scholarships and healing support through online support groups to individuals and families struggling with the after effects of loss due to suicide.  Professionally LaTisha is an educator, teaching students with Emotional Impairments and Mental Health disorders by day; and teaching future teachers as an Adjunct Professor of Special Education and Social Emotional Behavior by night.  She is currently completing her Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction. Standing firming on Isaiah 61, LaTisha is also very active in marketplace ministry. She is a licensed Minister of the Gospel and is actively involved in local, national, and international missions. She has completed her Bachelors in Biblical Studies with future plans to become a chaplain. LaTisha has been honored to be included in several book projects including Unresolved: A Six Session Greif and Loss Workbook by George E. Conway, Widowed by John Polo, That One Thing:   100 Widows Share Lesson on Life, Love, and Loss, and the recent anthology Widowed But Not Wounded:  The Hustle and Flow of 13 Resilient Black Widowed Women.  She has been working on her own book for a number of years, and hopes that it will be ready for publishing soon. 00:30:00The Color of Griefnowidowhood, suicide, postvention, prevention, griefLaTisha M. In 2009, her ex-husband, (father of our boys) was murdered in a triple homicide. She then experienced what professionals refer to as "complicated grief". In lay terms, She lost her mind...for about 5 years. With time, She came to find purpose in the profound loss she had experienced. Being up close and personal with death led her to a spiritual calling to help comfort the dying.  She now works as a hospice nurse and now she is in training to become an End-Of-Life Midwife. She knows that her current work and contributions to humanity could not have existed had she not first encountered great loss. Grief has made her the woman she is today. Her desire to share her unique experience. She  knows there must be others out there like her, who might find comfort and strength in her story. Her intentions are to help others grow through grief.  00:34:00The Color of Griefnodeath, dying, grief, homicide, forgivenessJoin the The Color of Grief Podcast with special gust Amy Morales, founder of Dying Differently2a72c5ec-f19d-40f0-ac89-7e10f99a530713fullDealing with Grief and Loss during the holidays with Guest Dr. Mekel Harrishttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/thecolorofgrief/2018/12/16/dealing-with-grief-and-loss-during-the-holidays-with-guest-dr-mekel-harrisHealthhttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/thecolorofgrief/2018/12/16/dealing-with-grief-and-loss-during-the-holidays-with-guest-dr-mekel-harris/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/thecolorofgrief/2018/12/16/dealing-with-grief-and-loss-during-the-holidays-with-guest-dr-mekel-harrisSun, 16 Dec 2018 23:00:00 GMTDealing with Grief and Loss during the holidays with Guest Dr. Mekel HarrisPre- and post-doctorally trained at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, Dr. Mekel Harris developed clinical experience and expertise in Pediatric (Health) Psychology, including individual and group interventions for children, adolescents, and families.
