About Clay: I didn't learn about it until I was more than 51 years old, and living with hyperthyroidism undiagnosed for so long eventually became life-threatning to me, and I nearly died from the tumors (called multi-noldular goiters by our doctors) leaking adrenaline into my bloodstream causing a usually fatal condition when it occurs in adults. I was lucky enough to survive this experience, as well as the 51 years of undiagnosed disease, so I've started a Foundation to help others who are undiagnosed in our country (at least 13 million folks according to the American Thyroid Association). It's known as the "National Thyroid Foundation." I've written a book in autobiographical format about my life's experiences with an undiagnosed and incurable disease. It's a very frank and candid book, because it's my belief that much of the world is undergoing an epidemic of thyroid disease far greater in numbers than any other disease in recent history. It's a lot more serious problem than just a "few fat kids," as thyroid cancer is the second most prominent form of cancer in children under 19 years old according to the National Cancer Institute. That same research Institute, the NCI, tells us that thyroid cancer is growing by more than 5% per year - an alarming rate, and a Colorado Study conducted some years ago uncovered the fact that more than 1 out of every 12 men, women and children in a completely random study had TSH levels out of normal range. We're not just a nation of a "growing obese population", we're a nation experiencing a health epidemic. The proceeds from the sale of my book:"Why Am I Anxious?" go directly to the NTF, which then in turn provides free hypothyroid screening at free clinics around the country. The book is now in general release across the country, in Australia and Canada, so you can buy it now, direct from the publisher, or get a signed copy from the author for a donation of $25 or more to the National Thyroid Foundation.
