2010 MacArthur Fellow Jason Moran has established himself as a risk-taking pianist and innovator of new directions for jazz. His awards include Jazz Artist, Jazz Album & Pianist of the Year in the 59th Annual Downbeat Critics Poll; Rising Star Jazz Artist, Rising Star Pianist, Rising Star Composer in the 2003-04 Downbeat Critics Polls; and the first Playboy Jazz Artist of the Year award.
Mr. Moran is on the faculty of the New England Conservatory of Music and the Manhattan School of Music.
Alicia Hall Moran, mezzo-soprano, brings diverse influences and passions together in a rich artistic brew. Ms. Moran played nightly in the stellar ensemble of The Gershwins' Porgy & Bess, Broadway's 2012 Tony-winner for "Best Musical Revival" and is now playing 'Bess' on the national tour of that musical.
Ms. Moran was an artist in the genre-busting 2012 Whitney Biennial along with husband, Jason. For the Biennial, Ms. Moran curated the celebrated 26-performance event, BLEED. This mega-offering juxtaposed new collaborations and inspirational works with a survey of the Morans' past collaborations in the musical and visual arts. Films incorporating music by the Morans' (films by Joan Jonas, Glenn Ligon, Kara Walker, and Simone Leigh/Liz Magic Laser) were also featured.
Together, the Morans are an artistic force to behold.
