Join host Tom Riddell and co-host Teri Brown as they welcome author Christopher Redwine to The Writers Lounge. Sit back and relax as Chris discusses what it's like to be a writer and he will also talk to us about his book: The Legend of Lilia.

In the early 1930's a teenage Russian girl was mesmerized by watching airplanes flying overhead. She knew she wanted to someday be a pilot. In 1936, at the young age of fifteen, her wish came true. Lilia Litvyak made her first solo flight in a wood and canvas biplane. This was just the beginning for her. After her beloved father was wrongfully executed by the Soviets for being a traitor, she sought to clear her father's name and to restore honor to her family by fighting the Germans in World War II. She took to the skies above Stalingrad and began to shoot down the enemy, one plane after another. A woman becoming a pilot was frowned upon by her male counterparts but that didn't stop Lilia. She would continue her fierce battles with the enemy and soon she earned the designation of "Ace" and the nickname of "White Lily of Stalingrad". Despite her efforts, her nation held back the highest honor of being "Hero of the Soviet Union". That would require a lot more effort and so her legendary status would have to wait until after the facts were compiled and her story was told.
