In today's broadcast Bishop Peter Elder Hickman will be examining the Mystery of the Epiphany of Christ. Each year on the sixth of January Christians throughout the world celebrate a feast commemorating the Epiphany of our Lord Jesus. The word epiphany is referring to a moment when the special revelation of God is made known or manifest to the human race. There are three stories from the Gospel tradition that are the focus of the celebration of the Epiphany: The adoration of the Magi from the Gospel according to Matthew; the Baptism of our Lord Jesus which is recorded in all three of the Synoptic Gospels, Matthew, Mark, and Luke; and the story of Christ's first miraculous sign at a wedding in Cana of Galilee which is found in the Gospel According to John. Why these three stories? What do these three stories have in common with each other in addition to the main character of each which is Jesus? Why do Christians think that the message of these three stories is something to be celebrated? These are just some of the questions that we will be exploring together over the next several minutes in this broadcast which is entitled: The Mystery of the Epiphany!
