Yesterday and today are the two days given to us in the year to renew our connection with the Vedic tradition of our ancestral rishis.  Nariyal Purnima, Sravan Purnima, Avini Avittam and various other festivities celebrated on August 1st and 2nd this year, corresponding to the Anandian calendar date of the Purnima (Full Moon) day in the month of Sravan (Aug-Sep.),  all mark the time for Upakarma, which means beginning (again) our study of the Vedas, whether after a temporary break, or after a more lasting one in the case of most people!  Yesterday was the day for Brahmins to purify themselves of adharmic acts and atone for non-performance of acts required by their dharma, propitiate the rishis who gave them the Vedic knowledge, chant for the removal of anger and lust from their lives, remove their old sacred threads and put on new ones, and recite the Mahesvara Sutras and a few key suktas from the Vedas to mark the symbolic start of the next school year at the patashala, the traditional school where this knowledge is imparted from a guru to his sishyas. And today is the day to chant the Gayatri Mantra at least 108 times, and if possible 1,008 times to recharge our spiritual batteries with the radiance and spiritual light of the Sun, which is a vortex of Brahman overseeing our life and evolution. To understand the evolution of the universe out of cns, it is important to recognize that inherent in cns is its immense, potent, infinite force, power, energy to materialize.  The dynamic, vibrational, ecstatic movement or play to express and manifest is celebrated in the Anandian traditions as the leela, or play of the Great Devi, Bhagavati, Isvari, the Goddess, the Divine Feminine.  So it is the dynamic play of pure cns, represented by Shiva, with his eternal energetic consort and counterpart, personified as Parvati or Shakti, that we experience as our world and universe.  In other words, the worlds are the interactive expressions of cns and energy enfolding and unfolding out of all forms and beings of the universe to finally find their integral unity in the One Brahman.
