Hello and welcome to the Forum a show about how politics results in policies that impact people. I’m Michael Fauntroy. The Forum premiers every Friday at Noon Eastern on the Tavis Smiley Network on Blog Talk Radio. You can also hear past editions of The Forum by visiting the show page. You can follow me on my website, MichaelFauntroy.com, on Twitter @MKFauntroy, or on Facebook at Michael K. Fauntroy.

The impact of crime control policy is out today’s topic. Many of us know about the disparate impact of such policies, particularly the impact on minorities and the poor. Our next guest argues that there is an additional injury caused by these policies.

Vesla Weaver is here to explain it all. She is assistant professor of African-American Studies and Political Science at Yale University and co-author of the forthcoming book Arresting Citizenship: The Democratic Consequences of American Crime Control.

Professor Weaver, welcome to The Forum.
