What does leadership look like when it is rooted in collaboration, support, awareness and creativity all the way through the organization from top to bottom and bottom to top? In this episode, we will explore creative and aware leadership with the President of The Leadership Circle, Betsy Leatherman. Not only will we discuss what this new model of leadership looks like, but we’ll also explore the tangible and robust results that emerge when an organization leads from creativity and awareness rather than reactivity.
Bio: Betsy Leatherman is the president of both The Leadership Circle and Full Circle Group. Her global role includes growth strategy, operational performance, deep customer intimacy and employee engagement for both brands. When she isn’t spending her time with customers working through ways to help them reach their goals, she is listening to practitioners and learning of new ways to help them improve their businesses. With a background in marketing and consulting she loves to listen and solve problems. She may be a little addicted to leadership as a solution to create excellent business results, but shouldn’t she be? When she isn’t passionately pursuing excellence with her clients, she can be found at a hockey rink with her husband Mike watching their true loves, Riley (10) and Kieran (8), be strong future leaders on the ice and in their hometown of Wayzata, Minnesota.
Lance Loya has a passion for teaching people to be good teammates! He is the author of two books—the popular children’s book Be A Good Teammate and the newly released Building Good Teammates. Although Loya has spent most of his coaching career at the collegiate level, he has worked with players at nearly every level of basketball. His youth basketball camps are some of the nation’s largest and attended by several hundred players every summer, popular with aspiring players becasue of the emphasis on teamwork. Campers are reminded daily that good teammates care, good teammates share, and good teammates listen™.
A former point guard at Garrett Community College and the University of South Carolina-Upstate, Loya garnered a reputation for being a “coach” on the court and true student of the game. As a player, he earned Academic All-American honors, and went on to earn a Masters degree in sports management. He is presently the all-time most winning basketball coach in Mount Aloysius College history. Though innovative in his coaching techniques, Loya's philosophies are still deeply grounded in a strict adherence to fundamentals, discipline, and good sportsmanship, which he instills in players. Loya is two-time recipient of the Schoenfeld Award for sportsmanship, character, and ethics, presented by the Collegiate Basketball Officials Association (CBOA). His players have also been recognized for espousing these same values, Loya was a radio morning show disc jockey. His public speaking skills have allowed him to become a sought-after speaker at schools, banquets, and various other corporate and civic functions.

I am proud to be an educator and consultant for Beautycounter, a B-Corp company on a mission to get safer products into the hands of everyone. The lack of regulation in the personal care and cosmetic industry is astounding and it is harming our health in very serious ways. We need more voices to join up on our mission. If you want to put your passion to purpose while being generously compensated, then I would love to start a conversation with you about what it means to be involved in the #saferbeauty tribe that is Beautycounter. Join the movement of #betterbeauty and message me via email to make your voice really resonate for a cause.
