EXPOSITION -Jamie C. Sloane, Professional Artist February 10, 2016 at 2:00 pm

    in Education

Exposition hosts Valerie Thomas and Mike Thompson  features Jamie C. Sloane, a professional artist currently residing in Gallipolis Ohio. Jamie studied Music Composition at Marshall University (non-graduate), writing symphonies and other large orchestral works. Jamie began to paint as a pastime, and found later that he had a passion as an artist coming through in the visual form. Much of my earlier paintings resemble music in the visual sense. Sloane’s first gallery show was in Gallipolis Ohio at the French Art Colony, titled ‘Translations: Aesthetic Interpretations of Gallipolis’; a visual translation of the historical landscape of Gallipolis Ohio. His second show occurred just one year later, containing 45 new paintings; this was held in Point Pleasant at The Gallery At 409.

Artisan Spirits and the California State Assembly

    in Food

An incredible trend in the Artisan Food movement is the burgeoning market for Craft Distilleries. California is in the midst of a rapidly devloping local food boom, but lacks many of the laws and policies to help these businesses flourish. A group of Artisan Craft Distillers in the State of California has recently banded together to help write legislation on the state level to allow this to happen. We will have an interview with California Artisinal Distillers Guild President, and Napa Valley Distillery Owner Harhur Hartunian who will describe his art, and the "Taste California" Assembly Bill 933 which will allow tasting rooms for these unique products.

Carolina Clay - The Story of Dave with Leonard Todd

    in History

Leonard Todd is the author of CAROLINA CLAY, the story of the slave potter known as Dave. Newsweek calls it “a fascinating account.” Publishers Weekly describes it as “a sweeping tale of the South itself.” It was a finalist for The National Award for Arts Writing, and it won the South Carolina Center for the Book Award for Writing. It is published by W. W. Norton.

Born in South Carolina, Leonard was educated at Yale University. He is a former Fulbright Scholar to France. He lived for many years in New York City, where he began his writing career with travel articles, short stories, and novels for young adults. Two of his novels, set in areas of the South that he knew well as a boy, were optioned for film productions.

Author Leonard Todd will be talking with us about the great ceramic artisan known as “Dave,” who lived in South Carolina during the 19th century. He was a potter, a poet, and a slave.

For many years, very few details were known about this enigmatic man. Leonard, however, discovered a startling personal link to him and set out to uncover his story. The prize-winning book, CAROLINA CLAY, is the result.

Leonard now lives with his wife, a poet, in Edgefield, South Carolina, where he recently wrote the book, lyrics, and music for his first theatrical musical, SUNNY DAY, which had its premiere at the Edgefield County Theatre Company.

Leonard has told Dave’s story to audiences at the Smithsonian, at Oxford, on National Public Radio, and today he will be telling it to us.

    Clothes that Fit Your Morals

    in Environment

Scott Leonard and Matt Reynolds, Co-Founders of Indigenous

In this case, Indigenous is synonymous with organic, fair trade, ethically sourced and guilt free clothing. I love these two! The backstory:  On a trip to South America back in 1993, Scott encountered the priceless beauty of clothes produced by local artisans. The richness of the culture and the amazing knitting techniques prompted him to bring back more than a souvenir to his Northern California home. He returned with a vision to pioneer a new business model that would invite each of us to wear apparel that demonstrates our commitment to the people and environment. Together, Scotty and Matt have helped form a scalable artisan network through the Indigenous clothing line that reflects a commitment to sustainability, social entrepreneurship and responsible actions by consumers and business alike. These guys are fun, funny and true revolutionaries. You will never feel the same about clothing again - and that is a good thing! This show made possible due to the generous support of The Chapman Automotive Group.

Easter: Resurrection of the Gospel Artisan w/Daun-Te

    in Spirituality

Easter is a time of remembrance. It is considered to be the highest of Holy days within Christianity because of the death, burial and resurrection of Christ, When Jesus rose He rose with all power snatching back the keys that man forfeited and the enemy had stolen. One of those keys was music, more succinctly, the psalmist. Music plays a pivotal role in the spirit realm as Ezekiel 28 provides insight regarding the King of Tyre, which describes none other than the fallen angel lucifer. When looking at this scripture we see luicifer created as the first orchestra, but with the ability to dance and sing. He knows the power of words set to music, which is why so many psalmist are under attack. Journey with Tabitha Vnson as she interviews Gospel sensation Daun-Te as he shares his testimony in the Resurrection of the Gospel Artisan.
